my top 5 best photography tips

It's no secret that I love photography and when I say love I mean LOVE. This past week I made a poll on my Instagram story on what kind of posts y'all would like to see. I had a few photography related ones and decided to make this post. Disclaimer: I am in no way claiming that I'm a professional photographer, these are just a few things I've noticed that help my pictures out a little.

Number One:

My first tip would be to try to get into a photography class of some sort. I got my start in my seventh grade Media Publications class. Maybe you don't have access to a photography class, YouTube has PLENTY of photography tutorial videos that you can watch. SkillShare is another great resource that I've used in the past. It doesn't matter if you're in middle school, high school, college, working, or even retirement; you can always learn something new.

Number Two:

Don't be afraid to whip out your camera. Sometimes there are moments that just need to be photographed. Something I continue to struggle with is being too shy to get my camera out and start taking pictures. Obviously there are inappropriate times to take pictures, but I'll let you be the judge of that. Something I've learned is that some of the best pictures that I've taken have been candids that show emotion. It just takes one good shot to know what the person in the picture is feeling. Above I have included a picture of my pawpaw that I took a few months back. This will forever be one of my favorite pictures that I've ever taken.

Number Three:

Get the person to laugh...or at least fake laugh. One thing that I've found out about my people pictures is that the shot turns out so much better when I can get a genuine smile out of them. One of my closest friends lets me take her Instagram pictures and let me tell you, we have the best times. Laughing and joking with your subject will not only make your shot better, but it'll make the shoot so much more fun.

Number Four:

Don't look for the moment, let the moment find you; but always be prepared. This picture was taken on some property in the middle of nowhere, Texas. I made the last minute decision to pick as many wildflowers as I could, bring them home, and press them. I thought they were so pretty that I snapped a picture with my iPhone 7 camera verses my Cannon Rebel T3i that I would've used if I had thought to bring it. I am absolutely obsessed with this picture. So in conclusion of this story, sometimes the most unexpected moments are the best.

Number Five:

I cannot stress this enough! Get out of your comfort zone!! This picture is a little more artsy than I normally go for but I think it turned out great. At least once a week I like to go on Pinterest and look at ideas that maybe I wouldn't have tried before. Trying out new stuff is amazing because who knows? You may find your style.

Thank you so much for taking time to read this blog post, I hope these tips were helpful to you. I would love to see pictures that y'all take! As always, if you have any suggestions feel free to send me a message. And until next time,

-Jo
